Mozilla Releases Firefox 16.0

October 9, 2012

The Mozilla organization today released version 16.0 of its Firefox Web browser, for Linux, Mac OS X, and Windows.  The new version includes  numerous bug fixes, including fixes for 14 security vulnerabilities, 11 of which Mozilla characterizes as Critical.  There are also some modest functional improvements, including:

  • On Mac OS X, Voice Over support is turned on by default.
  • Initial Web App support is available on all platforms.
  • Improved JavaScript responsiveness using incremental garbage collection.

There are also a number of improvements for Web developers, including a new developer toolbar.  More information is available in the Release Notes.

Because of the security content of the new release, I recommend updating your systems as soon as you conveniently can. You can obtain the new version via the built-in update mechanism (Help / About Firefox / Check for Updates), or you can download a complete installation package, in one or more of 81 (human) languages.
