Today is the second Tuesday of the month, so it must be time for Microsoft patches. This month, Microsoft is releasing five security bulletins, addressing 15 identified vulnerabilities. All five bulletins have a maximum severity rating of Important (although, based on an accidental temporary release of the bulletins last Friday, the SANS Internet Storm Center rated three of the five Critical for client machines). Two of the bulletins affect Windows itself; every supported Windows version has at least one. The other bulletins are for Microsoft Office (including Office for Mac), and for associated server software, such as SharePoint server, Forms server, and Groove server. Full details, and download links, are in Microsoft’s Security Bulletin Summary for September 2011.
According to Microsoft, one of the patches will definitely require a system restart, and the others may require one, depending on your system’s configuration. As usual, I recommend that you update your systems as soon as you conveniently can.
