Patches: The More the Merrier

February 4, 2011

Next Tuesday, February 8, in addition to Microsoft’s normal monthly release of security patches, it seems that Adobe and Mozilla are going to get in on the fun.

Adobe has issued a “Prenotification Security Advisory” [APSB11-03], saying that it intends to release a critical security update next Tuesday for Adobe Reader and Reader X, and Acrobat and Acrobat X, for the Windows and Mac OS X platforms.  (An update for UNIX/Linux systems is scheduled for the week of February 28.)  Adobe also says that any further status updates will be available on the Adobe Product Security Incident Response Team blog.

Not to be outdone, the folks at Mozilla have tentatively scheduled the release of Firefox 3.6.14 and Thunderbird 3.1.8, also for Tuesday.  Mozilla characterizes these as regular security and stability improvements; they have not yet announced the details of exactly what’s changed.

I will post further information here as I discover it.  It  should be an entertaining week for system admins.
