Microsoft Security Patches, February 2010

February 9, 2010

In keeping with their normal schedule, Microsoft today released 13 security bulletins for Windows and Office.  The patches appear to address at least 25 separate vulnerabilities.  All supported versions of Windows are affected, and every version has at least two vulnerabilities rated Critical.   (For a severity breakdown by Windows version, look at my preview post.)   There are two bulletins related to Microsoft Office; Mac users should note that these do affect the Mac version of Office also.

Details of the patches and download links are available in the Security Bulletin Summary.  The good folks at the SANS Internet Storm Center have posted their customary summary of this month’s patches.  It is worth noting that they have given a Critical rating, for client systems, to several vulnerabilities that Microsoft has rated as less important.  When in doubt I would go with the SANS ratings.

As usual, I recommend installing these updates as soon as you can, unless there is a compelling reason not to do so.
